Book Lovers Campaign
HISTORY
2010
-
Organized in conjunction with the Kyobo Book Centre, this reading movement is designed to encourage Korea's ten million active book-readers and to enhance the cultural level of the population as a whole. In 2010, through the "Identifying through Readings," the Foundation made it possible for domestic readers to engage in exchanges with Nobel Prize winner Herta Muller and well-known Japanese author, Kyoichi Katayama. Furthermore, the Foundation conducted a "Snow Country Literary Journey" where readers visited an important location from Nobel Prize winner Yasnari Kawabata's novel Snow Country, and also organized a "Turkey Literary Journey" where readers had the opportunity to visit important settings in Turkish literature like locations from Orhan Pamuk's My Name is Red among others. The events were well received by readers. Furthermore, the Foundation hosted the "Exhibition of Paintings Celebrating the Work of Sang Lee to Mark His 100th Anniversary" at the Kyobo Bookstore in Gwanghwamun, providing everyday citizens with the opportunity to be exposed to new cultural experiences where literature and art coalesce: ten artists participated in the event. The major programs included "Identifying through Readings Along with Writers" (held on six occasions), "Humanities on the Road," "Cultural Journeys" (held two literary journey's abroad), a "National Reading Debate Competition," and a "Literary Art Exhibition."
