Daesan Literary Awards for Young Writers

The Daesan Literary Awards for Young Adults is a literature scholarship program conducted to promote the refinement of emotions and rounded education for young people and discover and cultivate the literary talent who will lead the Korean literary world in the future. Directed at middle and high school students and other youth of the appropriate age nationwide, the program selects outstanding works in the categories of poetry and novels through a public contest. Selected students are given a final prize after a ¡°literature camp¡± with literary figures. Selected works are published as a collection. The award also supports the creation of a coterie and a literary coterie magazine to promote the continued literary development of and promote friendship between winners. In 2014, a total of 1,109 people applied for the award. A panel of seven veteran literary figures selected 80 award nominees for screening and participation in the literature camp. At the camp, in which the panel and the nominees participated, 36 winners were selected through an essay contest. Their work was published as a collection entitled ¡°The Popcorn War.¡±
